Limited edition book for exhibition of Swedish artists Lina Selander and Emma Hartman, curator Dobz O'Brien. Conceived and produced in response to Rory Prout's essay on the occasion of Speculative Fictions Exhibition at Sirius Arts Centre, Cobh, Ireland. Designed in Skibbereen, edition of 80 hand-crafted in Cork City by a team of many.

Lonely and The Moose: Co-creation of a limited edition CD package

Well I heard Lonely and The Moose at one of their 'Beatroot' sessions and just thought they rocked. We started chatting over–yes–roasted beatroot another day. Tessa and Liz had an idea for their dream CD which would be a precious box holding a bunch of their transatlantic letters to each other. I really liked that and thought of a plan to make a mini-box package as a limited edition run. It would be cheap and cheerful, full of photos, lyrics, memories and teasers for the long run CD. We would all make it together in a 'production frenzy' on the grounds of the stunning Glebe Gardens where Tessa cooks. I think a bonus is that it's flat-packable too: so the girls took a bunch over to the States and assembled them on the road. IKEA-packaging.

Swell Surf School Website

The team at Swell Surf School asked me to redesign their site this year. Collaborating with them was a demonstration of how actually great surf people are; so laid back and lovely. Inch beach in East Cork is the perfect place for learners as it has no mad crazy danger zones. It's beautiful as well. Petra Stone helped with thoroughly customising the Wordpress theme. I had fun creating a surfy vibe.

Offset 2012 - Interview with Stefan Sagmeister – and whether or not he is design's Oprah Winfrey

I'm just back from an inspiring weekend at design conference Offset, which was held at Dublin's Grand Canal Theatre. The talks are still percolating in the subconscious. Themes that were interesting for me personally seemed to be summed up in this interview. The ever-learning Stefan Sagmeister meets my first creative director Ciarán O'Gaora (zero-g). It touched on the pursuit of happiness, being a graphic designer, maintaining creative longevity, productivity and making time for personal work. Yes, thats all in there somehow. So below is what he looked like just *before* speaking to "that girl" mentioned, and just to prove that yes, I was there, you can see a terribly boring shot of everyone waiting for the interview to start... his head is behind the guy with the glasses, bun and beard, who is Ciarán.

Getting with the Web Type

Researching pleasing and beautiful web design with a fingertip close to the technical necessities leads one nto the classic alice-in-wonderland spiral of muchness. Without details, I'd like to share with you some rather jolly lovely places. Those of you out there versed in web-stuff will be rolling your eyes: "DUH! We KNOW all of these!" *I shrug*

First is the personal hub of Mr. Simon Collison, A.K.A 'Colly' who is undoubtedly a web-celebrity. He showcases Times New Roman lovingly.

Which brings us to 'The Elements of Typographic Style applied to the Web' a fabulous learning resource of detail for text styling in CSS2 and CSS3, by Richard Rutter elaborating the book by Bringhurst.

The Ministry of Type from Aegir Hallmundur which shows a broad but geekishly gorgeous set of porn-spirations. Old school but within a perfectly measured template.

Lastly, I bow to the HTML5 splendour of Magazin5 on Design Made in Germany. You can smoothly scroll the transparencies on your fancy-pants iPad but then be surprised at the quality content, such as an interview with Antonio Carusone, maker of the really very helpful champion of harmony The Grid System.

Rasmus Engelhardt Gundersen – Alfabetisk

I revisited Danish designer Rasmus Engelhardt the other week – (I know him from the MA in London College of Communication, where he was one of those with a sensitive typographic touch and unassuming manner). His work is grounded in a strong sense of playful modernity and rich heritage, which when applied to a museum environment or a city such as London, works wonderfully.

On Raisins and Chocolate

Yesterday evening I tried an experiment whilst sitting in front of the fire. If you didn't know what I was doing, you would be excused in thinking there was a complete basket case in front of you. A raisin sat on the palm of the hand, each crease and line and wrinkle studied carefully. It was then placed between thumb and index finger and squashed and rolled a little. It was then smelled very carefully and was surprisingly similar to fresh tobacco. Finally, after rolling it around inside the mouth, it was tasted and eventually swallowed. This was 'mindfulness eating', and is a kind of meditation of sorts. I can tell you that raisins are much tastier than I previously thought. The process is time consuming, but revealing. I'd like to call this diet the 'M-Diet', you can eat anything at all, as long as you go through the whole procedure of each sense, tasting each bite as if it were the last. It's a tough one. This is a lovely little booklet showing a willy-wonka-esque chocolate bar being eaten.
